Art at the Basement Gallery
Advice
Jane Brumfield has over 20 years of experience curating the
visual arts and a great eye. She trained in sculpture and
painting and worked as a practicing artist before shifting
her career to become a curator. The work in the gallery reflects
her personal tastes, but her endeavour is to select the very
best work in each of the genre represented by the gallery.
She has been collecting art since her early 20s and happy
to discuss work from both a conceptual and technical perspective.
Our
main advice in choosing art is to trust your own instincts.
It is true that art can be a great investment, but this should
not be the main reason for buying it. We mainly show emerging
and mid career artists and believe that all of the work we
select for the gallery will at very least retain, if not increase
in value. However, be aware that art is not an asset that
can be quickly liquidated.
Buying
wisely is more about developing a collection that you love
and want to keep. If you have a good eye, over time you may
find that amongst that collection you have work that has greatly
increased in value. What this really means is - that you are
able to enjoy owning a work that might be out of your reach
if you were to buy it today.
Payments
The Basement Gallery accepts Visa, Mastercard and Discover
credit and debit cards. We will accept checks accompanied
by a picture ID, such as a drivers licence.
We
also operate a Layaway Scheme, through which clients can spread
the payment for an artwork into four equal payments over a
four month period. The artwork remains at the gallery until
payment is made in full.
You
can buy online where you see the BUY link. Online payments
are made by using PAYPAL, through which you can use any credit
or debit card or your own PAYPAL account. You do not need
to have a PAYPAL account to pay by debit or credit card.
