“I
want the viewer to experience the sensuality of darkness
and uplifting inspiration of light.”
Christopher Perry’s moody and atmospheric landscapes
evoke an emotional response. They are not so much literal
representations of place but the memory of a place.
These landscapes are abstracted but retain recognizable
forms as keys for the viewer - both to their experience
of the artwork, and to their own memories of place and
time. This is characterized by bold marks, smooth surfaces
and expressive lines. The silhouettes are filled with
saturated color, while maintaining a balance between
the light and dark.
“I seek concentrated landscapes where twilight
shadows melt the sun’s raking light and atmosphere
diffuses the view.”
Christopher Perry works in two separate mediums. The
main content of this show focuses on his oil paintings,
but he also creates kiln-glass. Although the techniques
are significantly different in approach, there is a
continuing dialogue between both bodies of work. Effects
and surface created by one process are translated through
the other in this journey of expression though color
and mark-making.
Christopher Perry lives and works in Oregon. His artwork
work can be seen in galleries in New York, Oregon, Washington
Idaho, California, Utah and Hawaii. He is expert at
perfecting residential, commercial and architectural
commissions of all sizes and enjoys working with private
collectors, interior designers and corporate art buyers.
Commissions are developed through initial concept sketches
through to installation.
“With these works I want to make the viewer
feel energy and mood, and to provoke the viewer to think
about the dynamic relationships in their lives.”
